PRAISE THE FUEL, TOO

The Fire needs both flame and fuel,
as timber offers the lifetime
of sunlight stored in its cells.
as sacrament to the tongues of blaze.

Had the Flame touched stone instead,
its questing fingers would have sought,
then vanished, without kindling to feed on.

Praise the grace of the Flame
that comes to consume and release.
And praise the fuel, too, that surrenders
to Its annihilating embrace.

So it is with my heart's
tender desperate longing,
and the Flame of consummation
when You are known.
