Shadow Dance
Poetry by Gill Schwartz

MOST TREASURED JOURNEY

I often dream of the journey, the voyage without end.
I picture the small sailboat, waiting for me,
its stern dug into the long beach's sand.
There's a Bach cello suite on the hi-fi inside,
giving the boat a melody to go with the gently rocking waves.
The boat's blue sail makes long flappings in the breeze.
In it's tiny storage cabinet, I know there are other treasured CDs,
two or three gallons of spring water
and an once of the holiest sacrament.

I am ready.
I am ready to set sail from all this endless,
often pointless going and doing.
I will be so relieved to drop
this endless mind-chatter,
so grateful to be in a place
where there is nothing to do but be.
To spend the rest of my life with nothing
to attend to but watch the sea and sky,
as far from land as possible
until life ends.
I will be so gratefully relieved.
